My dear friend Tomomi Yoshimura, who owns a French wine bar "Ratafia" in central Fukuoka City and also teaches at several universities and colleges in the area, visited the town my mother lives in an hour's drive. Her purpose was to experience an Italian restaurant, "Tenuta Campi Flegrei" near here and so invited me to accompany her! It was so exciting, and I was looking forward to it!

Popular among locals, I would hear from my mother and her friends that the restaurant is tough to get the reservation. However, Ms. Yoshimura's persistent efforts made it possible to book a table for two; her saying was like, "you will never get to know the result unless you try." How cool she is, isn't she!?
She picked me up on her way, and we reached the restaurant precisely around the time of reservation. On their backyard was an organic farm where a couple of apparent exotic vegetables grew, along with the yellow rape blossoms, in the sweep of shivering early January Northwind.
Once stepping inside, you will be in a warm, spacious, and sophisticated space, an unexpected encounter in the middle of nowhere in the small and isolated town. Also, all the tables were full although we visited at lunchtime on a weekday.
The menu seems a little pricier side, frankly speaking, and you should prepare to shed out at least around 2,000 - 3,000 yen per person for lunch (cash only.) They have limited vegetarian (vegan) options too. However, it was worth it! Vegan marinara pizza, beans soup, and almond poudre cake... every plate we savored from heart, and I particularly loved the broccoli cake in the antipasto. Besides dining, you can enjoy shopping the farm-fresh vegetables, just-baked mini pizzas and cakes, imported olive oils, and different kinds of cheeses.
Moreover, it was a miraculous coincidence that the owner lady is my junior high school alumni! Wow, the world is indeed small!!! She told us the restaurant was shortly planning to introduce the limited and exceptional wines flying from Naples, her husband's native.
Everyone who lives in Fukuoka and is tired of isolation yet wants to spend some quality time out, drive to Fukutsu, and dive in the Italian universe! Reservation is highly recommended.
