I received an inquiry from a girl in Japan about the living environment in India, because she is currently considering of relocating to outside the country, and India is one of her options as she got an offer letter from the company in Gurgaon.
Generally speaking, the living conditions in India will largely differ by the cities, areas, budgets and all other factors. In short, it's all the matter of your luck. About her case, it is crucial to take help of the company hiring her to find the right place that fulfills all the possible conditions she desires. I sincerely wish her the best and hope the administration personnel from the company will provide necessary supports if at all she chose to work in India.
Thinking of my life in India, although it is not at all lavish nor high-standard, I have a small but comfortable, relatively clean (um, as long as I am in Pune!) house to live. I am much grateful that we own a safe place to stay.
When I was in Japan, I never imagined I could become a translator, which was my dream career. I was working as a kitchen staff in a supermarket in Kanagawa Prefecture with the salary of 100,000 yen per month, which might have been far better than my first salary in India by figure but far less to sustain the living in Japan. In that limited pay, I preferred to save monthly, and the saving contributed when it came to the situation of purchasing the flat in Pune we live now.
My first salary in India was 25,000 rupees back then in 2004 when I started working as a translator for a software company in Pune. I don't know the current market trend, but it was an excellent rate for most of the professionals of my age in India at that time. However, it was not as big as I could buy a mountain, so I preferred to save most of the salary.
After eight years with the company, I became independent in 2012 and now worked as a freelance translator. My monthly income fluctuates and is never stable, but far better as a person living in India. Also, because I am a freelancer, I can continue working wherever I go thus one of my dreams of "work and travel" is coming true. Living in India contributes to the significant advantage to me being a freelancer.
In short, all the possible dreams of mine are coming true after migrating to India. However, that is the case-by-case example and not applicable to everyone.
