Books for Christmas for my 6-year-old nephew in Tokyo, who stays far-far-away from Pune. Because I did not know his "taste," I decided to take "silent recommendation" from children in a bookshop near Mother's house in Fukuoka. Many of them were enthusiastically flipping through the pages of this "Kaiketsu Zorro" series (to the left,) so I followed them, hoping that my nephew would also love it.
I remember "Kaiketsu Zorro" series was already around there in my primary school's library when I was a schoolchild, and as such the front cover says that this year marks the 30th anniversary since the first publish. However, I have never read any copy of it before, nor I have known that the anime was also made based on the books.
Another one (to the right) was my heart's choice, titled "If I Could Go To School (もしも学校に行けたら)," for my nephew who is to be enrolled in the primary school in coming year.
It is a book for children written by Kenji Goto, a gentle journalist who ended his life in the land of so-called ISIS in early 2015, about the post-war Afghanistan in around 2001-2002. In this book, he focuses on people and especially children who deserve equal rights and opportunities as every child does in Japan. Although it might be way too early for my little nephew to be able to understand the content, I hope someday he would realize there are many brothers and sisters to care and to be cared on the earth.
